This drilling mud is a specially formulated long chained polymer designed to increase surface tension and raise the specific gravity of the water solution down your well. Drilling mud bonds to the hole walls and forms a barrier against ground water which helps to prevent cave-ins. Drilling mud also inhibits cave-ins by raising the specific gravity of the water in the well, which makes the ground water less likely to flow into the hole, bringing with it sand and mud.

Added in quarter-cup increments, a pint should last until you've finished a 100' well in most locations.
